I was so excited to work with Power 106 FM’s man in the morning, Big Boy. I spent an afternoon in LA shooting him for his new weight loss memoir “An XL Life”. At one point he was over 500 pounds, incredible. The concept for the cover was to shoot him in front of one of his old t-shirts that he used to wear. I think it was a 9XL shirt, it could have been a damn table cloth it was so massive!

Big Boy is one of the most genuine and down to earth people I’ve had the pleasure to work with. I’m really happy for him and what he’s accomplished. Definitely pick up this book, you won’t be disappointed.

This year I went to the most exotic of locations: Lincoln, Nebraska!

I actually had a lot of fun hanging out with our good friends Mike and Andrea. I got to see almost every part of Lincoln and sample pseudo-Mexican food at Amigos. I think I had the most fun photographing their baby, George Michael, the most photogenic baby ever. He puts the Gerber Baby to shame. Here’s a few of my favorite pics from my trip and thanks again to Mike and Andrea for their great hospitality. Go HUSKERS!

Growing up in Southern California, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead for Gringos) has always had a huge presence. Latino culture has melded into every facet of life here and rightfully so, this used to be Mexico! I’ve noticed how the popularity of this holiday over the last few years has just exploded. You see painted skulls and awesome folk art all over the place now. For me, it’s an amazing holiday to cover as a photographer, such cool imagery.

Here’s a few of my favorite photos from this year’s celebration at the Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside. I really liked the old school lowriders from the local car clubs. Almost every car’s trunk had a shrine and offerings to their loved ones that have passed away. Feliz Dia de los Muertos!

Back in April I flew up to Wasilla, Alaska to shoot Levi Johnston’s book cover for Simon & Schuster. To prep for the cold outdoor shoot I grew my beard out to “Woolly Mammoth” status.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from my two day shoot but it turned out to be quite an adventure. No, we didn’t shoot any moose but I did get to see a glimpse into Levi’s life. Say what you will about the guy but I found him to be a salt of the earth outdoorsman, born and raised in Wasilla, he is what he is and makes no apologies for it.

We did shoots in the backwoods, on rooftops in downtown Anchorage and setups on an old bridge over a glacier-fed river. We went out for pizza, shopped at a mega-huge sportsman’s store and talked about all sorts of things, including some interesting dirt on the Palins. Oh and by the way, my assistant Richy and I stayed at the Best Western in Wasilla which happens to be next to Sarah Palin’s house right on the lake. Looking out at the peaceful frozen scenery, I could almost see Russia, haha!

I finally got my first cover shoot so pick up a copy of the March 2011 issue. I shot the model Adam Nicklas on a cliff in Pacific Palisades, CA. It was two days after Christmas and we had the best weather in the country, man I love Southern California!

I also shot the October image of the Runner’s World 2011 Calendar. It’s of my friend Ben Wei running outside of the Capitol building in Tokyo, Japan. From now on Ben will be called “Mr. October”.

Is it me or did summer even come this year? It’s already freezing in Oceanside and I love it.  As we say farewell to summer I wanted to share my sunset time lapse I made last year. It’s my favorite intersection in Oceanside where the Strand ends and Wisconsin St. begins. The song is called “9 to 5″, I made it with my friend Ben Wei. We have a music side project called 11:11.

I have to give Ben special thanks for putting this timelapse together on Final Cut in one night, I think it’s over 1500 images compiled, thanks Weirdy! It’s a self portrait series of hip hop photographers, some notable
motherfuckers too, it’s a real honor to be apart of it and represent
Southern Cali. My ad isn’t meant to be that serious, more of an homage
to those cheesy 60′s and 70′s cigarette ads, just replace the burrito
